The internet has been around for just about twenty years but its speed of expansion and the impact it has exerted on our daily lives including professional lives is incredible. The majority of jobs now demand knowledge of computing otherwise, no chance. Many interviews are now conducted under the same environment. Both small and big companies are defining their business strategies inline with information technology. That is why computer training is a must.

The effect of information technology in developed countries is changing at an unimaginable speed. I can see the majority of services running on information systems and the lack of it cause serious misery one’s life style. Basic activities will not be left intact. Infact, to entice shoppers, cheaper deals are and will continue to be available only online. This means that if you cannot use computer skills, you will find it very difficult to do your shopping or you will have to pay punitivelly if you are buy offline. The good thing is that there are free online computer tutorials all over the place for you to take advantage of.

In a bid cut costs and also increase efficiency, businesses are preferring to do their activities online. Yes, high street outlets will probably be around for a long time, but real deals and most of them will only be offered online. In cities such as London for instance the transport fares are collected using smart cards and although cash are available, they are about 100% more which in itself a way to tell you that do not use cash. And when not using, you have to use re-known oyster card which is basically an information technology master piece. This is just one example.

There is no single part of our live style that will stay intact. Information technology is here to stay and if you are not yet computer literate, simply decide to put your hands on the keyboards straight away and learn something as a starting point.

Setting up a home network sounds like a job left to a computer specialist, but it can be done by just about everyone with little or no technical knowledge. If you have a broadband modem, the technology used is the same with the use of a Ethernet cord, only that more than one computer is involved. All that is needed is a few items to have a network set up in you very own home.

Home Networking Check-list:

- Network Interface Card (NIC)
- Router Hub (for wired or wireless computers and devices)
- Ethernet Cords
- Windows 7 operating system or older, other operating systems with networking features

Having a Windows 7 operating system in particular makes setting up a home network trouble-free with the new HomeGroup feature. When a computer joins a HomeGroup, the computer automatically shares files and printers without going through loops, and it is protected with a password that only you and your family knows for added security. But for computers with older version of Windows, adjustments are in order to get the most out of your home networking experience.

Network Interface Cards

To set up a home network, you will need a Network Interface Card. Most desktop PCs have these already installed. NICs have an Ethernet port that looks a lot like a phone jack, but only wider. NICs are installed inside the computer as with any internal device and may require installation from a professional PC specialist.

NICs can be installed personally, keeping in mind to disconnect all power sources and prevent static electricity from entering the motherboard components before opening the PC. If the NIC has an antennae for wireless usage, it can be used without the need for a Ethernet cord. For laptops, network cards may be built-in already along with a wireless card. If a wireless modem is not available on the laptop, these can be purchased and installed into the expansion bay found on either side of the laptop.

Routers

Next, you will need a router. A router connects computers together in a network (Local Area Network) setting, enabling the computers to share files between systems. Additionally, routers can be used as a Wireless Access Point (WAP) for other computers using a wireless networking card and for other devices with Wi-Fi technology. Wireless devices are becoming very popular for home networking as it eliminates the hassle of using Ethernet cords that could produce a tripping hazard.

There are a lot routers to choose, but finding the best wireless router may cost more as an inexpensive router may fail to deliver the best results. A favourite hub for home networking specialists is the Netgear router. It acts as both a local network hub and wireless access point supporting newer “G” and legacy “B” signal technology, and it has powerful security features to prevent individuals from prying into personal information.

Browse a computer shop these days and you’re likely to find something new. Yes, it is the new all-in-one touchscreen PC. A PC that only requires a single unit, which does not require a mouse or keyboard (although you are able to use these too, should you wish). If these machines become popular this Christmas and over the next year, then they could alter the manner in which we design and operate computer applications. Given the prominence of the touchscreen already, from the Nintendo DS to smartphones, iPads to sat-navs, and now the all-in-one PC, there is already a large public appetite for the kind of interaction that the touchscreen facilitates.

For many businesses with websites, the touchscreen could be crucial as it allows for a new type of consumer interaction. Customers will feel much closer to your business as their touchscreens increase their feeling of interaction. Users who virtually touch your products through real-life physical motion will feel a stronger connection between your products and themselves.

Web designers considering how their sites are viewed and accessed on touchscreen computers will need to consider a large range of new issues:

• Bright Colours – dirt transferred to the screen from fingers means that dark colours might become undesirable as brighter colours help mask grease and dirt.

• Switch things around – Left handers surf the web as well! Menus and buttons need to be easily accessible to both left-handers and right-handers.

• Size is important – Nice big buttons make it easier to your site easier to navigate. With big clumsy fingers, a tiny menu can be quite tricky on a touchscreen PC.

• Quick and easy – one of the pros of a touchscreen is that it can be a lot faster. But as well as making your site fast loading, it needs to be easy to navigate.

• Hide the cursor – No mouse means no cursor is needed. Users aren’t going to lose track of where their fingers are, but they might lose a cursor. Why distract them from your site with extra features that they don’t need?

• Layout – how will users interact with your site? Remember, those clunky digits can get in the way and block some of your carefully-designed content.

• Don’t make it a marathon – Lots of big movements across the screen and pointless clicking could wear the user out and dissuade them from staying on your site. Carefully think about how necessary each movement is and how to minimize arm fatigue.

These issues are, of course, merely a drop in the sea of what could become possible and what might need to be considered by the web designer of the future. That isn’t to say we should forget the humble mouse-user, though. Touchscreens provide a whole new age of interactivity, and web designers will, no doubt, find amazing, innovative new ways to harness this in the proceeding years. It will be particularly interesting to follow the ways in which businesses use this in the marketing of their websites. Interactivity is already fast becoming a big player in online marketing, particularly through social media, but it is yet to be seen how touchscreen technology might figure into that.

When you try to buy a computer today, you will most probably see specifications where something called RAM is mentioned. RAM is nothing but Random Access Memory and today’s computers have anywhere from 1GB RAM to even 8GB RAM in some high end systems.

RAM is volatile memory in the sense that the information stored in it is temporary. The processing unit in a computer needs a lot of memory to run today’s sophisticated operating systems and applications. It will need to store and retrieve memory on a very high speed basis which is where the RAM serves that purpose. The processor will store necessary information in the RAM to complete a process and then delete that memory when it doesn’t need it. That way, it is able to access the most needed information in the fastest way possible without having to dig around for it from other memory sources such as the hard disk or CD drive.

Though today’s computers are blazing fast, RAM had some very humble beginnings that go back to the 1800′s. This article will try to cover a timeline of events that has led us to the advanced memory chips we see today.

• 1834 – Charles Babbage, the inventor of computer memory came up with read only memory that was stored in punch cards!

• 1932 – An Austrian inventor invents something called the drum memory

• 1936 – A patent is filed for a new form of memory that is mechanical in nature. The memory depended upon the mechanics of sliding metal parts.

• 1942 – The first significant step towards electronic memory was taken with the invention of capacitors.

• 1947 – A series of inventors discovered the use of magnetic core memory.

• 1949 – A person named Jay Forrester perfected the idea of magnetic memory and all previous forms of memory were rendered obsolete.

• 1966 – A major production breakthrough is made by Hewlett Packard, now popularly known as HP, which introduced a line of computers with 8K of memory.

• 1968 – IBM introduces the concept of DRAM of Dynamic Random Access Memory and a patent is awarded to them. DRAM replaced magnetic core memory which became obsolete.

• 1984 – Apple computers, the creators of the Macintosh, released their first personal computer which came with 128KB of memory.

• 1984 – Now – DRAM has evolved at lightning speeds and is available in variations such as DDR and SDRAM which have a capacity of up to 8GB.

Future – Higher end versions of RAM chips called the T-RAM, Z-RAM and TTRAM are to be expected.

Computer memory has advanced massively through the years and the future is only going to bring many more developments. The key is speed and speed we will have!

If you’re trying to save money, you might consider purchasing a used computer. However, doing so can be dangerous. You have no real way to find out the history of the computer you’re purchasing. It’s not like you can get a Car Fax on it. So make sure you consider the following before making a used purchase.

Why are they selling it? When you buy anything used, you open yourself up to the possibility of future problems. That said, see if you can find out why the person is selling the computer. The last thing you want is to get stuck with a lemon that will send you immediately searching for PC repair. Of course, not everyone will be honest when facing this question, so proceed with caution.

Can the operating system be upgraded? If you’re going used, you’re probably going old. Which isn’t a big deal if the computer can be upgraded to a new operating system. If it can, you can do it yourself or take it to a computer repair professional to do it for you. If it can’t be upgraded to a new operating system, you might want to pass.

Can you add memory? Buying a used computer might mean getting a computer with limited memory. In this case, make sure you can add memory to it. This shouldn’t be a problem, but there are some PCs and laptops out there that have a fixed memory limit. And others might be difficult to add, causing the need for you to take it to a laptop repair company. Of course the best case scenario would be purchasing a computer you could easily add memory to yourself.

How does the price compare to similar computers? If you aren’t buying a brand new computer, chances are you’re trying to sniff out a good deal. If so, make sure you don’t just buy something because it sounds cheap. Do your homework. Look online at eBay, Craigslist, and other sites to see how much money similar models are going for. Also, don’t be afraid to try and bargain. Rarely is someone’s asking price for a used item actually their rock bottom price. Remember, you’re trying to save money!

Has the computer been cleared off? You don’t want a computer packed with someone’s personal files. This opens the door to all sorts of troubles. God only knows what they may have stored on that hard drive. And you certainly don’t want a computer infected with spyware or viruses. So make sure you know for sure that the computer you’re about to purchase has been cleared off. If it hasn’t, insist that the seller do so. And if there are any viruses present, demand that they have it professionally cleaned before you even consider buying it. You don’t want to pay to inherit someone else’s problems.

When you take the above advice, you lessen your chances of getting the short end of the stick on a used computer purchase. Remember, be cautious and you could save some money and get a good deal.

When searching for the proper registry optimizers for your PC, an individual are faced with two achievable options: you can obtain a free of charge clean from the internet, or you may spend some coinage for an authorized clean. You will find benefits of each and every type so read on to make an educated choice.

One of the apparent benefits of a free of charge registry cleaner is that no cost you everything. A number of the free packages work well and smartly designed and so they can clean your computer registry without issues. On the other hand, several totally free applications that you can get to completely clean the particular computer registry include unpleasant viruses, malware, malware or even Trojan viruses mounted on all of them and also they can end up harmful your pc or corrupting documents.

Another potential pitfall in order to using free of charge registry optimizers is that they could go out of vogue and therefore are not really introduced up to date with same energy since licensed optimizers. You need to takes place registry cleaner on a regular basis, however, if there are no revisions readily available for this program, after that furthermore it will be cleaning up your personal computer as successfully because some other programs would certainly.

Registry optimizers which have been obtained usually are not very costly and also they do not come with the potential risk of a virus or harmful computer software placed on all of them. In reality, it’s a really difficult type of adware and spyware have the particular free plan, it may wind up costing a person additional than the expense of a licensed product might have anyway. To eliminate the adware and spyware you may have to consult a computer technician or perhaps in the worst situation change your computer.
